Soundbites

Here are a couple of demos of the Electro. These are in the mp3 format. Thank's to Mr Joerg Sunderkötter for some (*) of the compositions. © KEYBOARDS Magazine Germany.

Acoustic Grands

The Electro's sound library contains several different acoustic piano sounds, as a supplement to the electro mechanical instruments.

Acoustic Grand 2 *

Acoustic Grand 3

Electrics

There are several electric pianos to choose from.

Electric Piano1 *
Electric Stage Piano 73 Mark 1, built in May 1978 and adjusted to ‘deep’ timbre. The so-called volume adjustment was set to ‘low’.

Electric Piano2 *
Electric Suitcase 73 Mark I, built in January 1975. We fine-tuned the mechanics and adjusted the tines according to the ‘ideal’ timbre adjustment. The volume adjustment was set to ‘close’.

Wurlitzer1 *
The Wurlitzer 200A sound.

Clavinet1 *
The Mega Clavinet sound that features all pick-up and filter variations of the original Clavinet D6.

Organ

The first four demos are made by B-3 virtuoso Eddie Landsberg. He plays a Nord Electro 2 SeventyThree and uses Keyboard Split. He normally doesn't feel very comfortable playing B-3 clones, he says, but the Nord Electro 2 has definitely changed that. It's right on the spot! No external effects were used on these demos. You're very welcome to visit Eddie's web site!

Three Nord Electro 2 organ demos made by famous Swedish artist Merit Hemmingson. Merit plays her two Nord Electro 2's together with an external bass pedal board. She also added a little reverb to the mix. You're very welcome to visit Merit's web site at www.meritone.nu for more info!

Great tools are simple ones, and the Electro 2 is a great tool for musicians. By focusing on just a few features, we’ve avoided spreading ourselves thin with unnecessary technological gadgets.

Sometimes the best tool isn’t a Swiss Army Knife. There are certain unique electric pianos that have been staple ingredients of music for decades, and they are more useful now than they’ve ever been. These instruments are unique, and they have a soul of their own.

Remember that great organ sound from Procol Harum’s “Whiter Shade of Pale”? Or the soulful electric piano from Supertramp’s “The Logical Song”? What about the Clavinet from Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition”? These classic instruments have inspired generations of players and songwriters, and they continue to gain more and more admirers every day. Now all these instrument have one thing in common: The Nord Electro 2.

The Perfect Fit

The Electro 2 is available in three sizes: 73-key, 61-key, and a rack module. The Electro 2 73 is the first choice of piano players who need a little more than the usual short range of standard stage pianos, but less weight. Coming in at around 22 lb., the 73 key version is modeled from the range of a classic electric piano, from which the Electro 2 takes one of its extremely rich and accurate sounds. For the musician on the go, the Nord Electro 2 61 is ideal. Sometimes stage space can be compromised, but not your standards of quality.

Why trade sounds for portability? The Electro 2 61 features the same waterfall keys and touch response as the Electro 2 73, as well as all the same sounds and features.
Keyboard players tend to collect a number of synths and stage pianos over the years. Sometimes all you need is that right sound, but prefer a familiar axe to play. For you, the Electro 2 Rack offers all the elegant sounds of the Electro 2 series in a rack-mountable module.

The Organ Section

The Electro 2’s organ section is modeled from a digital simulation of the mechanical tonewheels of the classic Hammond B3. This is an innovative and unique method of tonewheel simulation is what gives the Electro 2 its unique and accurate B3 sound.

A complex digital model of the B3’s chorus and vibrato scanners, the individual random contact bounces for each partial, and the frequency characteristics of the built-in preamp form the body of the Electro 2’s B3 sound.

The Electro 2 also faithfully simulates the energy robbing from the tonewheels, which results in the typically “compressed” sound that comes from playing many notes simultaneously.

The virtual tonewheels have been accurately tuned according to the original B3 design. The Rotary Speaker simulation found in the effects section is just icing on the cake!

The Piano Section

The piano section is comprised of five carefully sampled electric pianos - E-Piano Mark I, E-Piano Mark I Suitcase, Wurlitzer 200A, Mega Clavinet D6, and a custom Electric Grand Model G.

The Mega Clavinet D6 sound offers all the filter and pickup variations of the original Clavinet D6. You have access to 60 + 4 different Clavinet D6 sounds, your favorite settings of which can be saved as user sounds. The Electro 2 also includes a Malmsjoe Grand Piano, rounding out the necessary elements for the perfect stage piano!

The Electro 2 features unique multisample playback capabilities, displaying subtle nuances throughout the whole dynamic range. Thanks to this carefully designed sound engine, even the key releases of the original sounds are emulated, completing the aura of authenticity that can only be heard in the Nord Electro 2!

Free Samples

Vintage stage pianos came in many varieties, and while a Clavinet might sound great, it’s not “the” sound you need. Clavia offers a number of various characters of Electro 2 sounds downloadable for free. Use the Electro 2’s USB port to swap internal sounds with those that can be saved on your computer.

Achievements

Nord Electro 2 is three times awarded by MIPA. Best Stage Piano in 2003 and Best Organ/Portable Keyboard in 2004 and 2005.
MIPA is an abbreviation for Musikmesse International Press Award and can be compared as the "Grammy" of the Musical Instrument/Pro Audio industry.
